Australia Pacific LNG

aplng_logoAustralia Pacific LNG is the leading producer of coal seam gas (CSG) in Australia and holds the country’s largest CSG reserves position. We have been immensely involved with the Upstream works for the Australia Pacific LNG project, in establishing and enabling a multi-billion dollar, world-class CSG to LNG export project in Queensland. Our engagement was to provide High Performance capability to the most critical delivery component of the project; the Gathering team, responsible for providing infrastructure for 1100 wellheads that enable the extraction and distribution of gas (and associated groundwater) from wellhead separator to the gas processing facility.

We were engaged post FID by Origin Energy to develop their gathering leaders and teams, as well as to design and implement a collaborative engagement strategy with all their Tier 1, 2 and 3 contractors. This saw the development of multiple High Performance Strategies (one for the gathering team and one for each of their contractors), an overarching Collaborative Delivery Framework and ad-hoc project turn around interventions as the program required. This has resulted in every part of the project which we have been involved with delivering to target, on time and resolving all major differences collaboratively.

Due to the success of our engagement to date, Shape Consulting is leading the task of gathering the Lessons Learned since delivery began in 2012, and re-designing the entire Gas Facility Development Strategy to take APLNG into the Sustain Phase for the remaining 20 years.


seawallSeawall was a highly-visible $116 million dollar multi-stakeholder project. It was the first stage in a program of over a trillion dollars of work for the growing Liquefied Natural Gas industry. As a result of Shape’s involvement with governance arrangements, project leadership, supervisor training, health checks and team alignment workshops, a dramatic improvement in project performance was reported, including:

  • Goals and strategies as well as roles and responsibilities were clarified to deliver targets;
  • Alignment between functional teams was improved;
  • Team members made enhanced contributions and reported greater job satisfaction;
  • Senior Leaders were more highly engaged;
  • Issues and shortfalls were proactively addressed; and
  • Team and individual development was improved.

Ultimately the project was able to finish ahead of the required completion date, and the team reported a high sense of achievement and accomplishment.

Hunter Water

hunterHunter Water formed an alliance partnership with CH2M HILL and Abigroup to undertake $240 million of wastewater treatment works upgrades on thirteen wastewater plants in the Newcastle region. Shape Consulting was involved in providing the full range of our project services from the outset of this project and the alliance reported our involvement enabled:

  • Significant refinement of the governance framework and development of key leaders;
  • Improved delivery structure achieved through organisational review;
  • Re-ignition of team relationships, morale and motivation;
  • Improved collaboration between all parties of the alliance;
  • Engagement and maintenance of ‘best for project’ leadership behaviours and capability (through high performance methodologies);
  • Significant time and cost savings (through an applied Lessons Learned methodology).

The Wellington Tunnels Alliance

WTAThe Wellington Tunnels Alliance (WTA), comprising of the New Zealand Transport Agency, Leighton Contractors, SKM and AECOM, engaged with Shape Consulting to support the successful delivery of a $67.5 million refurbishment of the Mount Victoria and Terrace tunnels in New Zealand’s capital. The success of Shape Consulting’s involvement was measured in a Culture KRA which indicated successful achievement in:

  • Development of a High Performance Team;
  • Innovative strategies which enabled greater capture and implementation of value-adding ideas;
  • Development of a collaborative and constructive approach to teamwork;
  • Moving collective knowledge forward for client and parent companies to use in future refurbishment projects and alliances (through Lessons Learnt Workshops and Roadshows);
  • $1.5M gainshare for all the Alliance partners.
